Eric Spakman updated pxeinstall with the following changes:

  • upgrade to kernel 2.4.32
  • various programs updated
  • cleanups and bugfixes
  • new: support for pcengines WRAP

pxeinstall.tgz provides a tool to make use of PXE to boot systems like Soekris net4501, LexSystem or WRAP so that you can format an IDE HD or a CF card, put an msdos file system and syslinux on the IDE/HD or CF card and finally copy all files necessary for a Bering(-uClibc) system on the storage device.

Members of the LEAF crew release pxeinstall.tgz today, December 6th 2003.

Based on the work of Eric de Thouars, we created a tool to make use of PXE to boot systems like Soekris net4501 or LexSystem (tested with a CV860A version) so that you can format an IDE HD or a CF card, put an msdos file system and syslinux on the IDE/HD or CF card and finally copy all files necessary for a Bering(-uClibc) system on the storage device.

James C Meehan had a dream to build a weather balloon. He needed a flight computer to for the balloon. After searching, he settled on a single board computer from Soekris Engineering powered by the LEAF Bering distribution.

The current issue (100th issue...Aug 2002) of Linux Journal includes an article testing the performance of an LRP/LEAF based router, and compares it with a Cisco (The Linux Router by Kaleem Anwar, Muhammad Amir, Ahmad Saeed and Muhammad Imran).

The lead developer for this release/branch is Schuyler Erle. WRP is designed for the NoCatNet project.

Building on the popular design of the LEAF project, PacketFilter is designed as an appliance. For starter, if you use it as is, you can manage as many NICs as you can fit in the box and create a combo bridge/router/NATer of your own.
