My Contributions to the LEAF Project

KEYB.LRP Package

Living in Belgium, I was tired to have to type in qwerty on an azerty keyboard.

I sent a question to the linuxrouter mailing asking for internationnal keyboard support in august 2000 and got an answer from Kris Carlier (Thanks you for you info) pointing me to the loadkeys program.

I installed a debian slink on an old computer, copy the loadkeys, .map and the init script on my LRP system and tried to make an LRP package with that stuff.

Here is the result of my work.

I had problems when the map was gZipped but with an uncompressed key mapping it works.

keyb.lrp and keymaps.tar.gz

How to use.

The KEYB.LRP loads the be-latin1 key mapping, if it's ok for you, you don't need the keymaps.tgz

I tested this package on a EigerStein 2 beta pppoe release ( great job Charles and Kenneth)

  1. Download both files
  2. Copy the KEYB.LRP package on your boot disk
  3. Modify syslinux.cfg to add keyb.lrp to the list of packages to load
  4. Reboot your firewall. the azerty layout should work.
  5. If you want to change the layout, extract the desired mapping from KEYMAPS.TGZ on another machine ( With PowerArchiver 2000 if you use a Windows machine). (If you have a slink box , you can copy the key mapping from /usr/share/keymaps/i386/ ...
  6. Copy the desired mapping on your lrp box ( in /etc/ I had problems with gzipped keymaps (due to problems with the "busybox" ?)
  7. Backup the KEYB package and reboot

if you have problems, contact me at
